In April of 2009, Sciences Po and the Graduate School of Economics at Keio University established the Double Masters Degree in Economics leading to the Award of the Master de Sciences Po and the Master of Economics of Keio University in response to the surge in interest in Europe / Asia affairs.
As the world grows smaller with globalisation, Europeans are increasingly seeing Asia as a vibrant and growing region of hard-working people with a unique culture. Europe is seen by Asians not just as a source of culture and knowledge, but also as an important point of reference and a counterweight to the US. Sciences Po and Keio saw an excellent opportunity in this environment of heightened awareness, and seized it to initiate a double degree programme allowing students of either institution to obtain a master's degree in economics from both institutions. With France at the centre of Europe and Japan with its traditional society and strong economy, students will have a unique opportunity to learn about both Europe and Asia.
The double degree programme is open to all qualified applicants who will be admitted after a rigorous screening process. The applicant's English proficiency as well as past achievements in research are closely examined. Keio students who enter this programme will spend the spring term of their first year at Keio, then study one year at Sciences Po, and return to Keio for another year of study.
The classes offered at Keio include lectures on finance, international economics, environmental economics, law and economics and the Japanese economy, in addition to the 'omnibus' lecture series where outside speakers are invited from the frontline of research, government and business.
