The School of Life and Environmental Sciences offers a new interdisciplinary program of education to undergraduate students. The aim of this program is to nurture and train potential human resources with comprehensive knowledge to enable the identification of problems related to life and environmental sciences and offer strategies to solve global issues pertaining to environment, energy and food security at the regional and international perspectives. The course curriculum, which will be taught in English by Japanese and international professors, includes basic sciences, Japanese language and culture and core courses offered by three different colleges, Biological Sciences, Agro-Biological Resource Sciences, and Geoscience.
The College of Biological Sciences aims to provide students with a wide scope of knowledge on the systems of life and the mechanisms of biological functions, and to help them understand the essence of life phenomena and the importance of advanced research. In this way, students are equipped to become researchers, educators, and technicians, active in diverse fields of biological sciences. The College of Agro-Biological Resource Sciences aims to provide knowledge and expertise to overcome challenges and issues on biodiversity and interaction between its elements and human-kind, sustainable development and the environment. The College has strong international relationships with overseas universities enabling students to broaden their knowledge and skills by studying abroad.
The College of Geoscience aims at training students to acquire the general knowledge and insight in order to actively contribute to the study of the evolution of the earth, the natural processes in the earth's atmosphere, lithosphere and hydrosphere, and the interactions between natural environments and human activities. The educational program allows students to overview diverse fields of geoscience. Students learn concepts, ideas and techniques of geoscience through a wide variety of lectures, seminars and practicum (laboratory and field works).
