Summary / One of the factors causing the numerous natural disasters is considered to be rapid changes in the environment surrounding the earth such as global warming, loss of forests, erosion of rivers and the sea, and the heat island phenomenon in large cities. The students will be educated to become professionals who are determined to tackle these global problems, based on the foundation of creative science and technology. To this end, the following English degree programs will be implemented as two sub-programs within two departments: Global Sustainability and Development Sub-Program: Department of Modern Mechanical Engineering

In the first year, the students will take introductory courses such as Environment and Design, Environmental Policy, Intellectual Property and Economics, Environmental Science, and Introduction to Civil and Environmental Engineering in order to establish a common understanding of the problems. These courses will be instructed by faculty members of Department of Modern Mechanical Engineering, Industrial and Management Systems Engineering, and Civil and Environmental Engineering, Graduate School of Environment and Energy Engineering, and Division of Intellectual Assets.
All departments will offer classes for the second year and third year students in the first semester. The students will take courses such as Environment and Robots instructed by a faculty in Modern Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Management instructed by a faculty in Industrial and Management Systems Engineering, Architecture and Environment by a faculty in Architecture, Resources and Recycling by a faculty in Resources and Environmental Engineering, Environmental Hydraulics by a faculty in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Environmental System Evaluation Theory by a faculty in Environment and Energy Engineering, and Patent and Technology Transfer Management by a faculty in Intellectual Assets.
