Summary / To solve global problems common to all humanity, such as the environment, energy, and protection against natural disasters, one needs to have a global as well as a local perspective. Furthermore, for practical ways of solving these problems, results of creative research in science and engineering are essential in addition to efforts in social policy. It will be necessary to produce professionals who are globally oriented and can come up with ways to solve these problems and provide an academic approach. In this program, it will be possible to take all courses in English and take advantage of partnerships with various universities and research institutions in Japan and overseas to cultivate global and academic perspectives. The graduates of this program will be able to take leadership roles and contribute with a grounding in creative science and technology. This program will be divided into the following two sub-programs placed within the following two majors:
Global Sustainability and Development Sub-Program: Major in Modern Mechanical Engineering
Global Environment and Natural Disaster Prevention Sub-Program: Major in Civil and Environmental Engineering
Curriculum (Degree: Master of Engineering or Doctor of Engineering)
In order to be trained to become expects, students will mainly take courses in their sub-program; however, the students will be encouraged to take courses in a wide-range of areas including areas outside of their major in order to become global environmental engineers who can play active roles around the world. For example, the following lecture courses will be provided in order to produce engineers / researchers with a broad perspective: Environment and Design in the Major in Modern Mechanical Engineering, Applied Architecture Theory A and B in the Major in Architecture, Environmental Management Theory in the Major in Industrial Management Systems Engineering, Management of Society Foundation in the Major in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Advanced Geospherical Environment in the Major in Earth Resources and Environmental Engineering, Environmental Policy and Science Theory in the Graduate School of Environment and Energy Engineering, and Patent and Technology Transfer Management in the Division of Intellectual Assets. Study abroad programs such as short-term exchange programs (6 months / 1year) and summer school programs will be established where international students will study in yet another country based on already existing university-wide agreements with universities abroad such as Bauhaus University-Weimar in Germany and National Chung Hsing University in Taiwan. Students will be sent to such programs every year.
