System Design is a creative activity to bring a concept to a real being by balancing all the technical and social factors such as customer requirements, use objectives, essential functions, costs for R&D and operations, adaptability to the environmental changes and coexistence, in addition to the trade-offs among stakeholders. System Management is to set up an adequate goal and to balance various factors including quality, cost, schedule, risks of situation changes. System Design and Management must observe global trends such as adverse interaction between ethnicities, languages, cultures and economies in the transnational era.
Our aim is to provide a melting pot that brings together industry, government, and academia, and fuses the humanities and sciences. This permits students to form networks of contacts through interaction with people from other fields helping them to develop into: (i) creative systems designers-capable of proposing and achieving new technological and social systems to meet global and diverse values and interests in the rapidly changing social and development environment, and leading business in the new markets created (ii) innovative project leaders-capable of highly reliable, innovative management and operation throughout an entire system lifecycle: from conception and design to construction, operation, and disposal of more complex, advanced, and large-scale technological systems. We offer education and research through a fusion of technical / social oriented students with different generations; extensive short courses in spring and summer vacation; and virtually bilingual communications in education and research activities.
