The Japan Educational Seminar turned out to be a great success, with 583 participants in Jakarta (May 14th), 1,086 in Bandung (May 15th), and 1,540 in Yogyakarta (May 17th). Besides the 13 core universities under the Global 30 Project, Chiba University, Shizuoka University, Toyohashi University of Technology, and Hiroshima University joined the seminar this time.
At each booth of the Japanese universities, the participants eagerly asked the representatives from the universities many questions about admission criteria, curriculums, and scholarship opportunities. The seminar included simulated lectures on many interesting academic subjects such as engineering, agriculture and economics. The visitors listened to the university professors explaining their most advanced research with excitement. The classrooms were crowded with students who seriously consider studying in Japan. Since Japanese language proficiency is not required for admission, students seemed to show a great interest in coming to Japan to study in a wide range of English-medium courses offered by Japanese universities.
In addition, Indonesia-Japan University Leader's Meeting took place on 16th May, thanks to the generous support of Directorate General of Higher Education and Embassy of Japan in Indonesia. After an opening address was given by the Education Minister Muhammad Nuh, the vice rectors of the leading universities of both countries discussed the promotion of student exchange between Indonesia and Japan.
