 Internationalizing Japanese Universities : The Global 30 Experience

Global 30 member universities held the Wrap-Up Symposium on February 14, 2014 in Fukuoka.

We had approximately 410 participants. Report is now released in Japanese(JSPS website).

 1. Objective

As the Project for Establishing University Network for Internationalization better known as the Global 30 Project is to terminate at the end of March 2014, this symposium will offer a major opportunity for the 13 participating universities to share their experiences with the public audience, to evaluate the lessons learned, and to discuss ways to make use of them to further internationalize Japan’s higher education.

(a) Reaching Out to Internationally Mobile Students: Promotional Activities and Overseas Offices

      Discusses ideas and strategies for recruiting talented students and making effective use of overseas offices

(b) Managing Degree Programs in English: Admission, Curriculum, and Pedagogy

      Discusses challenges in managing international programs (admissions, curriculum design, and teaching classes in English)

(c) Internationalizing the Campus: Support System and Accommodations

      Discusses ways to internationalize the campus environment and to help administrative apparatuses to change in order to better respond to the needs of an ever-increasing number of international students and researchers

(d) Internationalization in the Eyes of Students: Voice of Students

     Local and international students get together and assess the present state of internationalization of     Japanese universities,and discuss ways and means to  improve the current situation.
